Independence and Liberty Come Through Trust In God

“And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:15)

**From our national foundations.**

Benjamin Franklin to the delegates of the Constitutional Convention, June 27, 1787:

“. . . In the beginning of the Contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection. — Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind of providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. . .”

George Washington to the Marquis de Lafayette, May 28, 1788:

“The plot thickens fast. A few short weeks will determine the political fate of America for the present generation and probably produce no small influence on the happiness of society through a long succession of ages to come. Should every thing proceed with harmony and consent according to our actual wishes and expectations; I will confess to you sincerely, my dear Marquis; it will be so much beyond any thing we had a right to imagine or expect eighteen months ago, that it will demonstrate as visibly the finger of Providence, as any possible event in the course of human affairs can ever designate it.”

**To the unfinished work of the people, by the people, and for the people that remains.**

Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863:

“. . . It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us . . . that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain. . . and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”

James Madison — The Complete Madison (Saul K Padover, Editor, 1953), page 43:

“What is the lesson? That because the people may betray themselves, they ought to give them themselves up, blindfold, to those who have an interest in betraying them? Rather conclude that the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government they should watch over it, as well as obey it.”

We the people, to be enlightened, awakened and united, ought not leave the task to others.

“THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT IT”, published by Oak Hill Publishing Company, is described as “a fast, fun guide to the most important legal document ever created”.
