National Chairman's Letter
December 1999
Dear Members and Friends of the Independent American Party,
In behalf of the National Officers, National Executive Committee and
National Committee of the Independent American Party, may I extend to
you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and happy New Year! We
pray that the new millennium will start us in the direction of renewed
righteousness, freedom and peace for our nation.
Reflecting on 1999 as this year comes to a close: We have
gained IAP members in 37 states, built relations with a number of
like-minded third parties in different states (though none of them have
formally affiliated with the IAP), held two successful National
Committee meetings, and added over 100 Viewpoint articles, as well as
other material, to our USIAP.ORG web site.
Looking ahead to 2000: This may prove to be a dynamic election
year. The Bush/McCain contest and the Gore/Bradley contest will
fill most of the news. The potential Buchanan/Trump contest (with
possibly Ventura and Perot) may prove to be the most politically
interesting. The IAP may benefit from the results of these other
contests. We will insure that our candidates be pro-family,
pro-Constitution and pro-America.
Regarding the Utah IAP presidential primary: The Utah Lt.
Governor has ruled in our favor that a candidate of another party may
run in our presidential primary in March, then run in the general
election under a different party in November. This opens the way
for Pat Buchanan and Howard Phillips to enter our Utah IAP primary and
run later under their own party if they choose.
Howard Phillips and Earl Dodge are both very interested in entering
the Utah IAP presidential primary. Dodge was elected as the
Prohibition Party presidential nominee at their national convention in
Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania last July. Phillips was elected
as the Constitution Party presidential nominee at their national
convention in St. Louis, Missouri last September. I attended both
conventions and feel that both are very fine men. And we may have other
candidates surface before the January 17 filing deadline.
Our next IAP National Committee meeting was tentatively scheduled for
January 21-22, 2000. However, we are postponing it to late
February or early March. Since the meeting will be in Salt Lake
City, we desire to have the Utah IAP presidential primary participants
speak at our National Committee meeting. We need time to see who
all our candidates will be, and to be able to schedule them for the
meeting. This will also benefit them media-wise if done just prior
to the March 10 presidential primary. We look forward to
both events.
Yours for Freedom!
Bruce Bangerter
