National Chairman's
Letter
February 2000
Dear Members and Friends of the Independent American Party,
The IAP has scheduled its third National Conference for Friday &
Saturday, March 3-4, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Conference was
originally scheduled for January, but was postponed until March to allow our
presidential candidates time to make plans to attend. As it now stands, Howard
Phillips (who is also the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party)
plans to attend the Candidate Forum of the Conference which will include a
press conference. Earl Dodge (who is also the presidential nominee of the
Prohibition Party) had planned to attend but ran into a scheduling conflict.
Our National Conference will begin Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. with an
Executive Committee Social at Home Town Buffet restaurant, 10390 South State
Street, Draper (Salt Lake County), Utah. The cost is $10 per person. Anyone
may attend. This a chance to visit with officers, candidates and members of
the party in a social setting, and have an enjoyable dinner.
Saturday morning will be our National Committee business meeting from 10:00
a.m. to Noon. We will discuss credentials and rules for our July National
Convention, discuss minor changes to our IAP Principles and a proposed
Platform, discuss campaign and other strategies, and conduct other business.
Anyone may attend, but floor participation is limited to National Committee
Representatives and Alternates. The meeting will be in Room 2003, (2nd floor)
North Building, Salt Lake County Complex, 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake
City, Utah.
Saturday afternoon will be our Presidential Candidate's Forum from 2:00 to
5:00 p.m. in the same room and location as the morning business meeting. We
will begin with a press conference featuring presidential candidate Howard
Phillips. After formal opening ceremonies, Howard will address us. We will
then hear a recorded address by presidential candidate Earl Dodge. We will
have a Q&A in which attendees may ask questions of Howard as well as a
representative from the Prohibition Party. Dan Hansen, State Chairman of the
Independent American Party of Nevada will also address us. Everyone is invited
to attend.
We hope the timing of this event will increase interest in the Utah
Presidential Primary Election on March 10. Earl and Howard will be our two IAP
primary candidates. And (as of this writing) Gore and Bradley will be the
Democratic primary candidates; Bush, McCain and Keyes will be the Republican
primary candidates. The IAP will allow all Utah voters to vote in its primary,
whereas the other two parties are allowing only their own party members and
independents to vote in their primaries. We look forward to a notable share of
voter participation in our primary.
Yours for freedom!
Bruce Bangerter
