IAP Mission Statement

May 2001

Dear Members and Friends of the Independent American Party,

Our IAP Mission is: To promote respect for life, liberty and property; strong traditional families; patriotism; and individual, state and national sovereignty -- with a strong reliance on the Declaration of Independence and allegiance to the Constitution for the United States of America -- by petition to God and by political and educational means.

On Life, liberty and property:

We recognize that children are created in the image of God, which gives life its sanctity -- its sacredness; and we respect all innocent life from the unborn to the elderly. We acknowledge that liberty is a gift from God; and realize that freedom comes, not from the right to choose, but the making of right choices. We favor property rights and the right to keep one's honest earnings.

We strongly oppose abortion and euthanasia; and are appalled at the trend toward violence and disrespect for all human life. We are opposed to the trend toward centralized government, involvement of government in our daily lives, efforts at gun control, and all activities that threaten our freedom. We oppose the unconstitutional forfeiture of property and favor repeal of the 16th (income tax) Amendment.

On Strong traditional families:

We recognize that families are the building blocks of our society and the strength of our nation. A nation is only as strong as the homes within it. Husbands/fathers and wives/mothers have traditional roles that ought to be encouraged. And it takes two responsible parents -- a man and a woman -- to raise a family (not a village).

We are opposed to the assault on the traditional family and its well-being that comes from easy divorce, infidelity, living together without marriage, child and spouse abuse, promiscuity, homosexuality, homosexual marriages, alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc.

On Patriotism:

We recognize the true patriot as one who loves God, his family, and his country; loves freedom; and loves the Constitution, the flag, and all that is good in America. We honor our servicemen from all wars and conflicts -- knowing that those who fought and died in Korea and Viet Nam made no less a sacrifice than those who died at Valley Forge, Gettysburg or Normandy.

We are opposed to the attacks on our traditional American heroes, the downgrading of our founding fathers and distorting of American history in our schools, and the elevation of the United Nations over the United States. We warily know that the intentional destruction of a child's love of country and patriotism is the first educational step towards world citizenship.

On Individual, state and national sovereignty:

We recognize the sovereignty of the family and individual where government has no moral or Constitutional right to intervene. We recognize state sovereignty as provided for in the 10th (States' Rights) Amendment. We recognize our national sovereignty above and before any world federation of governments and the New World Order.

We are appalled at the growing movement in our country that children now belong to the state rather than the parents. We are opposed to the federal government exceeding its enumerated powers and abusing the rights of the states and the people. We oppose all world organizations that threaten US sovereignty -- such as the UN, NATO, WTO, NAFTA and GATT; and we oppose the dismantling (or weakening) of our military.

On The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for the United States:

We recognize the Declaration of Independence and Constitution as being divinely inspired. We recognize that the United States is a Republic, not a democracy. We believe that God intended for our nation to be a Constitutional and free nation, and to be an ensign of freedom for all nations of the world. Therefore, we are committed to the spirit and tenets of the Declaration, and to supporting, obeying and defending the Constitution for the United States.

We are opposed to the trampling of our Constitution by Congress, the president and the judiciary. We are appalled at the shredding of the Bill of Rights with bans on religious activities, and with legalized abortion, gun control, etc. We see the destruction of our "checks and balances" with ratification of the 17th Amendment (for popular election of senators) and a move now to abolish the electoral college. We oppose efforts for a Con-Con, or rewriting of the Constitution by less than inspired men, who are far less the caliber of our founding fathers.

On God, politics and education:

We acknowledge God as our sovereign and the author of our freedom. We believe that to maintain that freedom, our society, our culture and our political institutions must be founded upon faith in God and moral laws. As a political party, we are committed to God's laws, America's Christian heritage, and our freedom. For, "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17).

May we as individuals, as families, as a nation, (and as a political party) do all that we can to seek God's favor and his blessings upon us. We need to get our lives and houses in order, that we may be worthy instruments in His hands.

Yours for Freedom!
