National Chairman's Letter

Respect for Life

March 2002

Dear Members and Friends of the Independent American Party,

Our IAP National Mission begins -- "to promote respect for life," and includes "-- with a strong reliance on the Declaration of Independence and allegiance to the Constitution for the United States of America --" in recognition of our national documents that guarantee our Right to Life.

The Declaration of Independence declares "... that all Men are created equal ... with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life ...." The 5th Amendment to the Constitution states, "... nor shall any person ... be deprived of life ... without due process of law; ...." However, the Bill of Rights was meant as a restriction on the federal government, not the states. This oversight was corrected after the Civil War by ratification of the 14th Amendment, which reads, "... nor shall any State deprive any person of life ... without due process of law; ...." Due process of law once meant that no man could be deprived of his rights, including life, unless proven guilty by a trial by jury in accordance with the law.

In October 1972, 3-1/2 months before the godless Roe v Wade ruling, I wrote for publication:

To the Latest American

In the twinkling of an eye you have become an American. You are part of the greatest nation the world has ever known. Ahead of you is joy and happiness in growing up with your little brothers and sisters; and beyond that the hopes and dreams of the future. But for now, you are a helpless little one forming inside the one you will call "Mommy." Yours is a dark and uncomprehensive world, and will be until the day you are born. Meanwhile, you will be molding those precious yet unseeing eyes; the little yet untouching fingers; the little feet that will soon delight your Mommy as you kick with the spirit of light from within. Ah, life -- so precious and so sweet!

But I'm afraid your Mommy's love does not reach to the precious little body and soul that burns with love and trust inside her. For she is a liberated woman. She insists on the right to her own body. And you have not come at a convenient time. So your little voice will never cry or be heard; those little lips will never smile; those little hands will never feel or grasp. In fact, your little body will not be allowed to form at all. You will never get to play with those little brothers and sisters. They will never know you even existed. Oh, if your Mommy would only let you live -- many are aching to have and love someone like you.

Ours is an immoral nation. We are a permissive people. But, when motherhood, family, and life itself becomes sacred no longer; when the lives of precious innocents become cheaper than the lives of convicted murderers; when abortion becomes so rampant it will be easy to condone infanticide; then will we have reached the depth of our depravity. Then will we surely fall as other nations have that have forsaken God.

But there are still those who care so much it hurts. We believe that the first and most important role of government is the protection of all life. We feel that the unborn is entitled to the full protection of the laws and the Constitution for the United States of America. When these laws have been voided and you have been stripped of all right to life, then we are fully ripe for our destruction. We need to resist abortion or feticide at all levels of government. There is no compromise to the right to life!

Today (29 years after I wrote that), there is an abortion for every three births in the United States. That equates to 28,000 babies butchered in the womb every week, equal to half the number of Americans killed in the entire Viet Nam War. Since Roe v Wade, 40 million unborn babies -- more than the population of California -- have been sacrificed to "the god of choice".

In Germany, a full century ago, there was an over-population anxiety that attracted significant intellectual support and led to the wide acceptance of abortion. By about 1920, the people and their doctors had a slight attitude shift, that there was such a thing as a life not worth living. This led to the euthanasia or mercy killing movement in that country.

Before long, gas chambers were constructed in a few insane asylums. Their purpose was to "put away" the most defective and burdomsome mental patients. But when those patients had been taken care of, the price-tag for life went down. They decided to put all of the patients "to sleep." When the asylums were empty, they turned to the defective children's institutions. Next they went to the prisons and got rid of the hard-core incorrigibles. Then they turned to the nursing homes and the aged. And finally, they tried to rid the world of a "defective race."

275,000 pure-blood Germans -- economic or socially worthless "eaters" -- were murdered in addition to six million Jews. The first gas chambers were built in the insane asylums, not the concentration camps. The anti-life mentality was already there when Hitler came to power. All the Nazis had to do was perfect the techniques.

As Albert Schweitzer said, "If a man loses reverence for any part of life, he will lose his reverence for all life."

Abortion is now America's means of birth control. It is our response to a breakdown in moral values. It is our echo to Hitler’s "Final Solution" for the unwanted. We have become desensitized to the feelings of victims of violent crimes, whether the prey be a precious, helpless, innocent unborn baby or someone else. It is our exceedingly great national shame. And a government that shuns the protection of human life, will ultimately eschew all of our rights.

As George Santayna said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Disrespect for human life and desensitivity is so prevalent in America today, that it is going to take more than a political or social solution to reverse it. It is going to take divine intervention! But until that time comes, may we as individuals and as a political party fight for the protection of innocent human life, and follow the admonition of Jesus Christ, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40)

Yours for Freedom!
