National Chairman's Letter
Presidential Poll
May 2004
Dear Independent American friends,
In my last Chairman's Letter, I invited everyone to participate in a
presidential poll. The first question asked for your preference of honorary
candidates for president, and was designed to add interest to the poll and to
deter people from submitting non-candidate names for the second question. The
second question of the poll asked for your preference of actual candidates for
president. Everyone was also invited to cast a second and third place choice for
each of the questions. Here are the results of the poll:
Poll Question # 1: Which non-candidate do you favor for honorary
mention for President of the United States?
Counting the first place votes only, the results — with a virtual tie for
first place — are:

Ron Paul is a Republican member of Congress from Texas and a former
Libertarian Party presidential nominee. Roy Moore is a former judge from
Alabama, famed for resisting removal of the Ten Commandments from his court
room. Alan Keyes was a 2000 Republican presidential candidate and a former
ambassador to the United Nations. Pat Buchanan was the 2000 Reform Party
presidential nominee and a 1996 Republican presidential candidate. Howard
Phillips was a founder of the U.S. Taxpayers Party (later renamed Constitution
Party) and its 1992, 1996 and 2000 presidential nominee. "Other"
represents a variety of non-candidates who received only a few votes each.
Some notable mentions (included in "other") were Jesse Ventura,
former Governor of Minnesota; Harry Browne, former Libertarian Party
presidential nominee; and Bob Smith, former U.S. Senator.

Michael Peroutka is the likely nominee of the Constitution Party (which will
hold its nominating convention in late June). George Bush is President and the
virtual Republican Party nominee. Ralph Nader is an independent candidate
(affiliated with no party) and the 2000 Green Party nominee. Gene Admondson is
the Prohibition Party nominee. Aaron Russo is a candidate of the Libertarian
Party (which will hold its nominating convention in late May). John Kerry is a
U.S. Senator and the virtual Democratic Party nominee. Diane Templin is the
American Party nominee for 2004 and was its nominee in 2000. "Other"
represents a variety of candidates (including several other Libertarian Party
candidates) who received only a few votes each.
So congratulations to Ron Paul, Roy Moore and Michael Peroutka! And
thanks to all of you who responded to the poll! Our poll was by no means
scientific, but it allowed everyone — members, friends and others — to
express their presidential preferences. The results will be presented to the
National Committee for consideration (but will not be binding on them) when they
decide which candidate (if any) to endorse for president at our National
Conference in July.
For God, Family and Country!
