National Chairman's Letter
Baldwin & IAP
Platform
October 2004
Dear Independent American friends,
In my last Chairman's Letter I focused on Michael A. Peroutka, our
presidential endorsee, and compared statements made by him (gleaned from his web
site) with the twelve major section headings of our IAP National Platform. Now I
would like to do the same with Chuck Baldwin, our Vice Presidential endorsee,
with statements gleaned from his web site. Peroutka and Baldwin are the
presidential and vice presidential nominees of the Constitution Party.
1. Mr. Baldwin on Christian
Heritage: "Our Founding Fathers said that we were created by God
and that we were created with certain unalienable rights. My friends, it was the
Founding Fathers that brought God into the "rights" proposition. You
do not have intrinsic rights and freedoms except that there is a God in heaven
that gave them to you! God, not government is the Grantor and Guarantor of
freedoms and liberties. Our Founding Fathers recognized that freedoms come from
God. These, then, are moral issues."
2. Mr. Baldwin on Family:
"My friends, the future of the American nation is at stake here. I repeat,
there has never been a nation in human history that once having adopted moral
perversion as a normal, legitimate, alternate lifestyle that has survived. There
have been nations throughout history that have adopted the sodomite lifestyle
into the normal mainstream of that society and in every instance that nation has
not survived! They have gone to the ash heap of destruction."
3. Mr. Baldwin on Citizenship:
"The real responsibility rests with the American people, however.
Ultimately we have the nation that "we the people" tolerate. Do we
regard fundamental liberty as relative to the amiability of one's beliefs? Are
historic truths now situational to politically correct thinking? Have we traded
a nation of law for a nation of opinion polls? Are we willing to sit passively
by when tyrannical practices are committed against our neighbors thinking
someone will later come to our defense? How much do liberty and the eternal
principles laid down in the Declaration of Independence really mean to us?"
4. Mr. Baldwin on Unalienable
Rights
(~ specifically Life): "Our responsibility to God recognizes the
preciousness and sanctity of human life. And those who are the weakest among us,
those who are the most vulnerable among us deserve the strongest support. What
is weaker than an unborn child? It's a history in the American culture that we
protect the women, children, and the aged. It is the job of the strong to
protect those that are weak. That is a Biblical tradition. That's a tradition
that we historically recognized."
5. Mr. Baldwin on Education:
"Today you are being asked to validate the demands of those who would seek
to plunge our classrooms into the abyss of secularism. In the name of tolerance
and respect left-wing ideologies want to censure any semblance of Christian
influence from our schools. Using the mythical separation of church and state
(which appears in no official document of our nation) and [like] an eager School
Superintendent they are asking you to implement Guidelines which will, in
effect, put the finish nails in the coffin of public education."
6. Mr. Baldwin on Economy
: (No specific material was found on this topic.)
7. Mr. Baldwin on Society
(~ specifically Crime): "The increase in crime has nothing to do with
the accessibility of firearms! The problem is liberalism! It started when
liberal lawyers and judges removed God from our nation's public schools. Liberal
educators who advance amoral ethics exacerbate the problem. Liberal clergymen
deny God's word and liberal businessmen finance liberal politicians who are
engaged in the biggest take away of God-given freedoms in modern history."
8. Mr. Baldwin on Natural
Resources: (No specific material was found on this topic.)
9. Mr. Baldwin on U.S.
Constitution: "You see, what difference does it make who wins a
presidential or congressional election if neither party will faithfully
discharge their duty to the U.S. Constitution? We have seen Republican and
Democratic presidents come and go. The same goes for congressmen and senators.
Yet, government continues to get bigger and bigger, while freedom gets smaller
and smaller. Neither has either major party done anything to reverse the trend
toward socialism and globalism."
10. Mr. Baldwin on Government:
"Let's not forget that when government becomes your benefactor it also
becomes your master. More government means less freedom. Everything government
gives on the one hand it takes away on the other hand. Freedom means unlimited
opportunity. We don't want the government to give us a handout. All we want is
for government to get out of our way. All we want is just the opportunity to
live our lives freely under God. That's what the Founding Fathers intended. The
opportunity that freedom has afforded us in this great country is astonishing.
By the way, it's why the world wants to come to America."
11. Mr. Baldwin on Defense:
(No timely material was found on this topic.)
12. Mr. Baldwin on U.S.
Sovereignty: "It has always been Satan's intention to unify the
nations of the world into one government under his evil control. When the
anti-Christ comes during the Tribulation period he's going to come as a great
unifier of nations. The global government that we hear so much about today will
be fulfilled under the reign of the anti-Christ. Globalism is as much the
working of Satan today as it was during his attempt to unite the world with the
tower of Babel thousands of years ago."
Mr. Baldwin seems generally in line with our IAP beliefs. I invite you to go
