A THREE STEP PROGRAM TO INFLUENCE CONGRESS.

With Congress in session for the new year, it is time to look at what our elected "representatives" (Your Senators and Representative) are doing as opposed to what they are saying.

How many of you have received a letter from your "representative" in Washington full of platitudes and feel good phrases calculated to put you at ease and back to sleep?  These constituent letters are masterpieces of fluff, full of sound-good rhetoric about your issue, but making no commitment other than to look after your interests.

You probably wouldn't allow your Senators or Representative complete control of your checking account with only their promise to look after your interests. If this is a ridiculous idea, and it is, then should you allow your "representatives" to look after your Freedom without constant oversight and accountability?

Most members of Congress are not dedicated to preserving and enhancing your Freedom. They are dedicated, however, to getting re-elected and preserving their power and perks. The group which furthers their re-election plans is the group that gets the action. And that group, for the great majority in Congress, is the Beltway Insiders, the special interest lobbies and power groups that bribe, blackmail, flatter, and fawn over our elected "representatives". If your Freedom happens to get in the way of achieving their goal of re-election, that is just too bad.

It is essential that we make Congress more dedicated to preserving and enhancing our Freedom. Constituent communication is the Constitutional and only sure way for the average person to influence Congress. Over the past decade, we have seen constituent pressure work miracles in changing our “representatives” minds. When the people at home are up in arms about an issue, Congress regularly weathervanes towards a position that supports Freedom.

Let's look at a three step program to begin bringing Congress under control of their constituents.

1. Write to your "representatives" concerning an issue in which you have an interest. This can be a prepared letter or fax from one of the organizations that supports your issue. (A list of these organizations follows):

    A. Numbers USA - to fax Congress on immigration issues.

http://www.numbersusa.com/index

    B. The John Birch Society http://www.jbs.org/ to email and petition Washington on a variety (20) of Freedom issues, including immigration and firearms.

    C. Gun Owners of America - For firearms issues.

http://www.gunowners.org/ - click on Legislative Action Center.

    D. There are many other organizations that you may use to contact Congress, these are the three that have worked best for me and that I have used the most.

2. You get a letter in response to yours.  In that letter find where your "representative" states that he supports your issue.

3. Write him a letter asking why, if he really supports this issue, that he hasn't cosponsored HR XXX which would resolve this problem?" (A list of bills already in Congress follows at the end of this alert.) Also ask "Why, if he feel this strongly about the issue, that he isn't taking the lead in Congress to get it resolved?" Send him a copy of his letter with the salient points highlighted.

The idea is to hold Congress accountable for their actions, and not let them get by with purely lip service toward Freedom. Using their own letters to prove their hypocrisy will begin to make them more accountable to their constituents.

An even more effective way to enhance accountability is to use quotes from their letter in a letter to the editor. Ask why they haven't taken the steps to resolve the problem since they are so committed to the issue. When your letter is published, send a copy of it to your "representative".

Congress is the key to preserving our Freedom. Congress controls the purse strings, the Treaty power, and oversight of the Supreme Court and the Executive Branch. We must make them exercise their authority to preserve our Freedom. Commit now to constant communication with Congress so that Freedom may be preserved for us and our posterity.

God Bless America, (Remember, pray daily for the Freedom of our nation.)
