A Groundswell Against the FTAA

On March 11th we reported the victory in Utah, where both the state House and state Senate overwhelmingly passed resolutions against the FTAA. "The New American" for March 21st reports the following trend nationwide against the FTAA:

"Other Stop the FTAA Committees across the U.S. have also been having success in their anti-FTAA efforts — as is evidenced by increased state activity in opposition to the FTAA. In Indiana the Senate passed a resolution to have the U.S. stay out of all new trade agreements. Arizona, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Montana are taking actions similar to those in Indiana and Utah; and in Wisconsin and Oregon, the state governors have drafted letters opposing the FTAA. Wisconsin's governor has stated that Wisconsin will not be "bound" by these trade agreements, and Oregon's governor has said that Oregon will not be "a voluntary participant" in the trade agreements."

The Free Trade Area of the Americas is a dagger aimed at the heart of the American dream. FTAA cheerleaders claim that the pact will open vast new markets for U.S. exports. That's exactly what they said about China. The fact is that the only things we have exported to China are our capital, our factories, our technology, our jobs, and our children's future.

Millions of American jobs — blue collar and white collar — and thousands of businesses — from factories to farms to hi-tech — have been lost to so-called free trade with our Red Chinese "partners." We heard the same promises of prosperity and exports regarding NAFTA. The result? A similar huge exodus of jobs and businesses to Mexico and Canada.

The vast majority of the American people are concerned about the economy, concerned over lost manufacturing capability and lost jobs. This concern can be mobilized into political action in support of initiatives similar to those reported above. If we will support and lead this groundswell of public opinion, WE CAN WIN THIS ONE! Coming to grips with a victory over the plans of the Insiders may take a paradigm shift in the thinking of many of us, we are so used to fighting valiantly and then losing by a cat's whisker. But there are many indications of a basic change of thought pattern, both in the American people and in Congress, so I urge you to make that paradigm shift today. Strike now while public opinion supports the Freedom cause!

Please do as many of the following activities as you possibly can.

1. Sign the online petition at the following link. The petition will be sent to your two Senators and your Representative. http://www.stoptheftaa.org/petition/

This petition is an expression of opinion, so send it weekly if you wish.

2. Study the reasons for defeating the FTAA at this link:  http://www.stoptheftaa.org/

3. Team up with local members of The John Birch Society in your area to get a resolution against the FTAA passed in your state legislature. They are actively working on getting this passed, so help them out.

A sample resolution as passed by the Utah State Senate can be found at the following link: http://www.le.state.ut.us/~2005/bills/sbillenr/sr0001.pdf

4. If you live in a state whose legislature has passed a pro-Freedom resolution, thank those Representatives and Senators who voted for it. Ask those who voted against the resolution to justify that vote.

5. If your governor has written opposing the FTAA, thank him for doing so. If he hasn't, urge him to do so.

6. Pass this alert on to your friends and family. Encourage them to get involved to save our Freedom and our economy!

The FTAA can be defeated if we pool our resources and efforts. Congress will 'see the light, when they feel the heat.' LET'S WIN THIS ONE!
