Independent Americans on the Offensive
by Dan Hansen (Nevada)
Speech given at the Barbecue of the IAP National Conference, July
14, 2001, Kearns (Salt Lake City), Utah. Dan Hansen is a former State
Chairman of the Independent American Party of Nevada.
It's tough to follow Will Christensen [the previous speaker], an
infernal optimist. I enjoyed listening to the speech by Joel Skousen [an
earlier speaker] today, and that was right down my alley. Well, you
know, the Lord is a great missionary and I think Joel's on the right
track, to tell you the truth. Because there's no atheist in a fox hole.
So I think when things get tough, like he suggests, that we might have
some more recruits.
In the meantime, he's provided us the common man, with the common
man's "urim and thummin" today. Everybody has access to it.
Its the Internet. You can get all the information in the world off the
Internet. And a lot of this information is being spread out. People are
taking part and getting involved. There is a tremendous revolution going
on.
There's a tremendous revolution against the income tax, for example.
Millions of people simply are not paying anymore. Morale is down in the
IRS, and collections are down 98%. There is a lot of good news out
there. And there's a lot of good wisdom on the Internet.
Doctors and Guns
And I picked this up off the Internet, and my son-in-law sent it as a
letter-to-the-editor. He says, as a local businessman and a father of
six children, I find the following statistics significant.
Subject:
Doctors and Guns.
There ought to be a law. Number 1.
Number 2. Number of physicians in the US: 700,000.
Number 3. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year: 120,000.
[4] Accidental deaths per physician: 0.171 -- from the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
[5] Number of gun owners in the US: 80 million.
[6] Number of accidental gun deaths per year: 1,500.
[7] Accidental gun deaths per gun owner: 0.0000188.
[8] Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more
dangerous than gun owners.
[9] Remember, not everyone has a gun, but everyone has at least one
Doctor. [laughter]
[10] Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban
doctors before this gets out of hand. [laughter]
[11] Remember guns don't kill people, doctors do! [laughter]
Natural Man
Well, let me ask you a question. What does it take to stink? No
effort at all, you sit around for two or three days -- everybody's going
to stink. It takes great effort to be clean. Alright, so people tell you
its only natural -- to do what your mother's been fighting for years to
get you to be unnatural, to be clean. We have to shower. We have to
shave. We have to use deodorant. It takes great effort to be clean.
Cleanliness is next to godliness.
These civilized efforts take a great deal of effort. You go out and
you plant a garden. And you get the finest soil and the finest seeds,
and you put them in, and you plant them in the garden, and you walk away
for two or three days -- and the weeds come up naturally. Don't they.
Well natural man is an enemy of God. We know that. And the natural
condition of man throughout the history of the world is the condition of
slaves within the institutions of government. First, they are slaves to
their own natural prejudices, proclivities, and ignorance. And then they
are slaves to pharaohs, and kings, and dictators, and emperors, and con
men. And so the natural condition of man is to be a slave.
Comfort and Slavery
Now there is no worse a slave than those who believe they are free.
Are we free? Well, when over 50% of our income goes to the government in
the form of taxes -- we have less income than the serfs did during the
feudal days. But we're still very comfortable. Still very comfortable in
the position we're in.
Now let me tell you about the "Swine Principle." My son
raised a bunch of grandkids out on my farm. He had apple trees
everywhere, with apples falling everywhere. And he got a little pig. And
this little pig ran around the farm free eating all the apples he could
possibly eat. And the kids were grooming it, petting it -- and it was
the best friend -- and they went swimming with it in a little pool of
water we had there. For sure, that little pig was in hog heaven -- right
up until the time my son butchered it.
Now we have to be very concerned that we know the difference between
comfort and slavery. And I submit that when the presidents of the world
-- whether its Bush, or Reagan, or Clinton, or the son of a Bush -- who
are going around the world, giving hundreds of billions of dollars away
to foreigners. And they are sending the IRS tax collectors to Reno,
Nevada -- against the little waitresses who are struggling to make a
living -- to intimidate them, to make sure they pay every last nickel
that they make in gratuities to the IRS. That makes us tax slaves to the
world, I don't care how comfortable you are. So, one of the conditions
of servitude is slavery. Now one of the reasons is -- and I'll tell you
another story.
Folly of Conservatism
You've heard about the Conservative dog. Remember, that was Newt
Gingrich's dog? He was Conservative, and he was very loyal to Newt
Gingrich. And they went out hunting and they got lost. And Newt
Gingrich, being a very resourceful politician in that sort of thing --
and they had no food, they were in a desperate state. So he cut the tail
of old Conservative off. And he cooks it up, and eats it, and has a nice
broth in the meat. And when he's still cooking this dog tail of old
Conservative, he takes the bone and he passes it around to old
Conservative. And Conservative eats it up hungrily. And then he went and
licked his masters hand in gratitude afterwards. Well, that's what a
conservative is.
You can never win a war unless you're offensive. Remember that --
unless you're offensive. You can't be conservative. You can't win a
football game being conservative. You can't try to be comfortable and
conserve the status quo. If you want to have freedom, you've got to go
and get tough. You've got to go after the enemy. We can't be
conservatives. We've got to quit calling ourselves conservatives. The
very meaning of conservative condemns us. We are Independent Americans,
so what are we trying to conserve?
Okay, for those concerned, Phyllis Schafley, a wonderful women -- but
she wasn't on Air Force One the other day. Because the conservatives in
Congress, and the Republicans that conserved Bill Clinton -- and now we
have Bush in there. And he has -- who's on Air Force One with him?
Hillary! Hillary's flying around with Bush -- the son of a Bush.
So what have we done? We have conserved everything the Clinton
administration had. Bill Clinton proposed a 1.65 trillion dollar budget.
And Bush proposes nearly a 2 trillion dollar budget. Who's the greatest
socialist? Who's' the greatest threat? Its alright, because he's
conservative. What's he conserving? He's conserving the New World Order.
He's conserving the destruction of America. He's conserving the tax
structure that is destroying our families.
On the Offensive
We don't need to conserve anymore. We have to restore the
Constitution. That can only be accomplished when we have an offensive
attack on the enemy. We go after them in such things as the United
Nations. We go after the "government" school system -- it is
not the "public" school system. The government can't
indoctrinate without its school system.
Now the odds are against us. How many of you expect to win when the
odds are against us in a stacked deck. Oh, well, you expect to win?
Okay, I like it. Independent thinkers. Independent Americans. Alright,
you've got a monopoly in government schools. A monopoly in the political
party system which allows no choice. Its controlled. Its regulated. The
results are predictable. And no matter who gets in there, its the CFR
and socialists. So that's control. They have a trillion dollar budget.
Trillions of dollars they spend out there to keep people in the system
locked in. Everybody has got a piece of the pie. Everybody is taking the
bait. Everybody is on the hook.
So, socialism is popular. They're in control of the government school
system. They're in control of the news media. They're in control of the
entertainment industry. Where aren't they in control? And, so to people,
the standard in America today is look: Its socialism. That is the
standard. And if you want to get elected, you come out there for all of
the socialist programs. Who can best administer the socialist programs?
-- is what all the debates are about.
So how do we get elected? We have to split the votes. Because there
is still a moral minority. There's a moral minority -- no moral majority
-- its a moral minority. So we have to be audacious. We have to go on
the attack. We have to stand up for our principles. We have to do like
we did in Nevada. We are fighting the IRS in court. We are fighting the
legislature in hearings. We are fighting in the political arena. We are
fighting the BLM, Social Security system, OSHA; and we're fighting the
election laws.
We're fighting in the legislature with a full-time lobbyist -- Janine
[Hansen]. We fought the ERA. We fought Con-Con. We are fighting them
everywhere. We are on the attack. And believe me, we're purists. We are
not conserving anything. We are on the attack, we are audacious, we are
on the attack, we are Independent Americans.
Independent American Spirit
Now in the moral minority, you might get in the position where you
are as ridiculous as Mark Faux. Where is Mark? Yeah, he's ridiculous.
The only idiot around who walked in a parade by himself [with a Votescam
poster] -- all by himself. Now I know you're an idiot. Mark, that's
exactly the spirit we need. He's on that attack. He's on the alert. He's
passing out literature. Whether its by himself, or with a group, or
whatever -- he's not going to give up. He's going after.
Now this is the kind of spirit of an Independent American. This is
the sort of thing that I come over here to get inspired by. This is what
we need. This is what we are. We are on the attack. We don't care what
the odds are. In Nevada we say, "My gosh, isn't it great. Its easy.
No matter which direction we shoot, the enemies there." [laughter]
And when we get a letter from the IRS we say, "Hey, alright. Its a
chance to attack again. Go after them."
Today [in Dr. Frank Creel's speech] we got a new spin on Malachi. Now
Malachi, said they would turn the hearts of the children to the fathers;
and unless this was done, there would be a great curse brought upon the
land. Now we all got a new insight to that scripture today. Our hearts
are being turned to the fathers -- the founding fathers, we are talking
about. We don't need to discover anything, or invent anything. We just
have to rediscover what they have already done and follow suit.
Christ said over and over again, Uphold my law. Uphold my law. Uphold
my law. That's what we are doing in Nevada, and it is powerful. You take
his law to the IRS, and expose their fraud for what it is, and they
shake in their boots. Uphold the law of God. Uphold the Constitution.
Put forth boldly. That's what we have to do -- turn our hearts, and the
hearts of our families and our people back to the fathers. And
eventually to our Father in Heaven. That was a brilliant insight. By the
way, watch that wonderful movie "Amistad." And that's the
final theme in the final part where they went out to the hearts of their
fathers to overcome this great evil.
Now there was a war in heaven before we ever got here. There must be
opposition in all things, Otherwise, there is no existence. So I
anticipate, when we get up to the other side, there is going to be war
going on there. Now you should have some hope there.
You heard about the Catholic and the Baptist -- went up to heaven,
and were getting a tour of the golden city there with St. Peter. And
they said, what's out in that window over there? And he said, oh, that's
Hell over there. Can we go look? Well, yeah. They went over, the
Catholic and Baptist, and they looked out there, and asked, what did you
say this was? And he said its fire and brimstone. And they said, it
doesn't look like that. So he walked over there and said, let me look,
let me see. My gosh, its all green, and beautiful and pretty. So those
damn Mormons are irrigating again. [ laughter] So wherever we go, we're
going to make our own heaven. [laughter]
So the point is, there is going to be irrigation. There is going to
be battles going on in eternity. God didn't create people like Moroni
and Joshua for nothing. We are in an eternal battle against evil -- and,
you know, if you ever thought about how privileged we are. I remember
when I wanted to be in a school play. I didn't make it. I wanted to be
in that play, but I didn't make it. The other kids, they got to be on
the stage. They got to be in the play. And we're in the biggest play in
life. This is the battle of life. This is what life is all about -- the
eternal struggle between good and evil.
Battle for Freedom
And we're on the point of the spear. We are the Marines here. We're
on the point of the spear, and we understand the game, and we get to
play a significant role. We can have our voices count. We can write our
letters-to-the editor. We are here to fight, and stand up. How glorious.
What an opportunity this is. So don't be discouraged. We're the few. The
valiant few. The privileged few -- who have the opportunity to be
Independent Americans in this great battle. To be on the point of the
spear. "And should we die before our journeys through, happy day!
All is well!
But in the meantime. I like the Pattonian Principle better. We were
told by Patton, "Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country. He
made the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." So we are
going on the attack. We're going out to destroy the enemy. We're out
there to make victory. And what do we have to battle with -- The truth,
the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! And know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free.
Well, as Independent Americans, we have achieved a great state of
freedom. And we have no fear. "Do what is right; let the
consequence follow. Battle for freedom in spirit of might. And with
stout hearts look ye forth till tomorrow. God will protect you; then do
what is right."
